FESTIVAL GUELAGUETZA

EXPERIENCE 2025

6 Day Photo Workshop

July 17 - 22, 2025

$3,900 USD

LIMITED TO 7 ATTENDEES!

Join us for Festival Guelaguetza Experience 2025 photography workshop with accomplished Mexican street photographer David Coleman. David was born and raised in Mexico and is an expert with the Mexican people, customs, language, and world renowned Oaxacan culinary cuisine. This photography workshop also includes visual storytelling instruction and image review sessions.

The Guelaguetza festival showcases the finest samples of Mexican folklore. We will be visiting local pueblos with regional dances and music that has survived since the pre-Hispanic era, and the festival annually gathers huge audiences excited to see the ancient cultural heritage.

Residents of Oaxaca City dress in traditional costumes and showcase their folklore dances and songs as well as delicious food. One of the main attractions of the festival is the parade that starts in the Plaza de Santo Domingo. People of all ages participate in the procession wearing flamboyant costumes,  masks, and wigs. Some of these costumes are passed from generation to generation to preserve local customs and beliefs.

"I love David’s workshops. This was my third time and another amazing trip. It’s not just a photography class but a cultural experience including food and customs. David is always checking in and making sure your questions are answered. He also found a local guide and driver, both of whom keep an eye on you so you feel totally safe. My photographer skills improve each trip." - Wanda Helms, Albuquerque, NM

"My trip to the Guelaguetza Experience 2024 in Oaxaca with David could not have been better. He and his driver and guide showed us things we could not have found on our own. We were always at the right place at the right time. As I review my images I am so thankful to him for helping me improve my photography." - Bob McC., Portola Valley, CA

"I had the opportunity to be with David for his photography class on the Guelaguetza in Oaxaca this past July 2024. Although it was not my first time to visit Oaxaca I learned so much more this time, and was able to go places and do things that I would not have been able to do without David's knowledge. He was not only an excellent guide and educator but he surrounded himself with others (a driver and guide) who added even more to what was already an incredible experience. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is interested in photography and/or Oaxaca." - Kathy Sandidge, Santa Cruz, CA
